New Wednesday Class Format

Wednesday classes will no longer be taught in a monthly series format. Wednesday at Triangle Dance Studio will no be an ongoing class. Students are welcome to drop in or out at any time and only pay for the nights you attend. Cost is now $20 flat rate to take as much or as little of the time from 7-10 as you want.

The class will always include a solid core of Lindy content, but may at times work into other Swing dances as well.

July Class: Special Topic – Mo Mentum, No Problems

Laura Windley and I will be teaching a special topics class for 2 weeks in July on Wednesday July 14th and 21st. This will be a core technique class focusing on using momentum in your dancing across all swing styles.

The ability to create, maintain, and use momentum in your dancing is what takes dancing from choppy to smooth, from tough to effortless. We’ll cover the basics for both leads and follows to make use of this fantastic energy in their dancing and ways to work on it beyond class. We’ll also cover common moves where we’ve seen momentum missing locally and how to lead and follow them far more proficiently and easily.

Class will begin at 7 and continue until 8:30 or 9, then we will have a free open practice available until 10pm.

When: 7-10pm July 14th and 21st

Location: TDS, Upstairs Studio 2603 S. Miami Blvd. Durham, NC

Cost: $20/night for 3 hours of instruction/dancing

Advanced Topics Blues: Conversation in Blues

Think of the most stimulating and memorable conversations in your life: are they the ones where someone agreed with everything you said or the ones where you were challenged, where ideas developed and were discarded, and by the end you couldn’t remember where the conversation started? The latter, right? Well, we think the same applies to your dancing.

In this class, we’ll help you develop the skills to turn your dancing into a stimulating conversation, making each dance different with each partner. Leads will work on listening and drawing inspiration from the follow, and how not to feel responsible for the entire content of the dance at all times. Follows will work on adding to the dance without taking over and bringing their own voice to the dance. And together we’ll work on creating ideas in collaboration that can surprise and inspire everyone.

Time: 7:30 – 9pm on Friday July 9th, 2010

Location: TDS downstairs studio

Price: $15/12 (regular/student)
Class attendees get in to DBF (social dance upstairs from 9pm-midnight) free!

Classes will be moving to Wednesdays starting on June 30th. Classes will now be in a 1.5 hour format with beginning lindy from 7-8:30 and an ongoing intermediate lindy class from 8:30-10. Cost will be $15 per class or $20 for both.
